As the year winds down, most people glance at their portfolios to see how they performed, but I would argue that portfolios are not the best measure of your financial plan. Wealth is a resource, not an outcome. It’s only valuable in terms of what it enables for you, your family, and your legacy. The Envizion More mindset measures financial success more by the margin, flexibility, and impact it creates along the way.
Before you close out the year, take a few quiet minutes to ask yourself questions that matter more than performance reports.
10 Questions to Measure Your Year and Your Plan
- Did I live more aligned with my values this year? Did my spending, giving, and time reflect what I say matters most?
- Did I create more margin (financial or personal) than I had last year? Margin is freedom. It’s what allows you to rest, pivot, or say “yes” to what matters.
- Did my plan hold up when life went off script? We can’t predict the future, but we can prepare for flexibility.
- Did I make intentional progress toward a long-term goal? Whether it’s a business milestone, a home project, or a charitable dream, strategic steps compound.
- Did I strengthen relationships through how I used my resources? Money is a tool for connection. Did it help you support, invest in, or spend time with the people who matter?
- Did I model healthy financial habits for the next generation? Teaching stewardship (by example and conversations) is one of the greatest legacies we leave.
- Did I experience generosity this year, in giving or receiving? Generosity fosters contentment and shifts the purpose of wealth from accumulation to impact.
- Did I protect what we’ve built? Did we outgrow our old estate plan with any big steps forward over the last 2-3 years?
- Did we allow ourselves to enjoy what we’ve worked for? While we should be treating the future as equally important, we should be enjoying the journey.
- Am I clear on what “more” looks like next year? What kind of “more” matters more to us? What would we do with more income? What would more financial freedom enable?
